“Life is like an ocean-it can be calm and still, or rough and rigid.

But in the end-

Bahía de Caráquez or Bahía, is one of the smallest yet one of the wealthiest city’s that I have come across in Ecuador. By now I have seen all or most of Ecuador and when I say it looks wealthy, you can take my word for it.
In the first half of the 20th century, Bahía was one of the major ports of Ecuador. But with the eroding sandbanks over time, it now no longer holds a spot of the top ports of Ecuador. Instead the city has grown massively on a different tangent.

Around 4.5 hours drive from Guayaquil by car and 6 hrs by bus, this city is easily accessible to people keen to spend a weekend here. While driving from Guayaquil, you will cross many famous cities including Portoviejo, which is the capital of the province of Manabi.

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the province of Manabi,Ecuador;  Bahía has gained its popularity because of the golden sand beaches and the immaculately built high rises.

This city is very popular amongst the Americans, who usually either decide to retire here because of the favoring climate and suitable ambiance, or, pick up holiday homes to come and spend some time with their family in the peak summer season. The latter is usually the case in 80% of the scenarios.

The real estate of Bahía has flourished massively in the last few years. The fact that this peninsula city is situated on the banks of the River Chone facing the Pacific, makes the view from the many houses constructed here, a delight to wake up to.

You will find many hotels, restaurants and smaller food outlets in the city catering to the tastes of the very many tourists visiting Bahía. Just a few minutes drive away, you will find other popular tourist spots like San Vicente and Canoa which you can always visit when staying in Bahía.

The beaches are smaller and can get very crowded during peak season(Jan- Apr) with the Ecuadorians and the tourists all flooding into the city. The beach offers many different options of water sports like jet skiing, para sailing, speed boats, kayaking etc.

I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to witness a gorgeous wedding happening at the beach.

I sat for almost the whole ceremony because it was so mesmerising.

The already beautiful ceremony became even more beautiful with the perfect background of the sun, sand and the water.

Considering it is a quieter town compared to maybe Manta of the same province, the nightlife is non existent here. Thus if you are looking for being up, dancing and drinking till wee hours of morning, then certainly Bahía is not the place you would want to go.

On the other hand, if you want to get away from the hustle bustle of the city life, relax next to the beach, wake up to the most beautiful view of the ocean(Pacific), in your beautifully decorated summer house/holiday home, then  Bahía is just the place you would want to be in.
